I have found a way to apply motion capture files in
.c3d format to Blender armatures.

The python import script can be found at:

http://www.zoo-logique.org/3D.Blender/index.php3?zoo=dld&rep=zip

The .c3d files can be found at:

http://mocap.cs.cmu.edu/search.php?maincat=1&subcat=1

The entire database can be downloaded via zip file for
Windows. A word of warning exists on the home page as
Carnagie Mellon does not wish those browsing to 'crawl
the database'.

The file imports empties into the workspace. The
empties are parented to the armature by first putting
the armature in 'pose' mode. Select an empty first,
then holding the shift key select some part of the
armature. Hold down keys, ctl+alt+c and a menu pops up
with various constraints. "Copy location" seems to
work for me, but others are available.
