[Bf-funboard] Texture/Image nodes

Has anyone ever suggested a new node mode for creating procedural
textures, in addition to the material and compositing modes?
The Input nodes could be along the lines of the patterns in the current
procedural texture set, ie. noise, wood, checkerboard etc, or you could
take input from an existing image. Then you'd have filters specially
suited to image processing, such as blur and distort, and possibly share
some of the image filters from the compositing set. You'd then output to
a texture, or maybe an image for export.
This would make it super easy for users to create new procedural texture
programs, too, if Python can create new nodes (I'm not sure if it can yet?)
Anyway, just an idea. Good idea or bad idea?
