The problem with Edge length is that the algorithm relies on the value of
Size for the Object. That value need to be of 1 for each of SizeX, Y and Z
otherwise the reading we get with 'Edge length' is false relative to the
global coordinates. I wish that Blender would take Size into account before
displaying what it says is the 'length' of an edge but it doesn't.
Is there any way that your script could imitate CTRL+Akey >> Apply Size/Rot
prior to it changing the length of Edges ? Not that I can't take the
responsibility of doing it myself but I know what I can do...
Notice that I appreciate greatly your generosity in sharing that rather
extensive code with us. I promise to put it to good use. :)
