Sorry, what i was meaning was, that blender does not actively prompt you 
on open, if a recoverable file exists.

Other software like indesign, word, solidworks..... will save all work 
as you go to a tmp file, and delete it on close. allowing them to know 
if the program shut down by accident.  they then prompt the user if that 
happened, and actively recover files, rather than waiting for the user 
to work out what they are doing. 

If a user opens and closes blender once, then their quit.blend file is gone.

I also agree, changing q to a harder combination like Alt+Q (or even 
windows/comman+Q) would be another thing that can be improved. but this 
is not an area that a single fix will do.... it needs about 4-5 fixes 
for it to be solved (all seem fairly small, but all add up).
