Oh! OK.

If you're happy with a slightly older version of Blender, just install
the one that comes with Ubuntu. You'll need to enable the Universe
repository. This is how it's done in Breezy:

Then just use Synaptic to install Blender. Information about that is
under section 2.2 of that page.

If you want a newer version of Blender, the easiest way is to install
the old version first (as above). That will automatically get most
libraries for you. Then try running the version you downloaded from
blender.org.

If it still doesn't work, search for the missing libraries using
Synaptic and install them. For example, libtif is probably called
libtiff4 or something like that.
