Alpha map also there is a curve that can be edited to create a 
different falloff.

In addition to it in Zbrush there are different ways to disperse your 
brush stroke(s) or even repeat brush strokes as many times as needed.

Most here are going to tell you to just use proportional edit, but I 
would guess they have not yet tried this kind of tool to understand how 
useful it is. There is a python script that will do it but it is not in 
realtime, if someone could edit the script to try a produce at least a 
minute of realtime editing that might convince the nay sayers to try 
and build it in C Blender.
