[Bf-funboard] Learning from Flash

Hi!

Thinking about layers and visibility management, Flash 
came to my mind.

Take a look at its Timeline:

The pencil marks the active layer (if I remember corectly).
Eye and lock should be obvious. The colored rectangles is 
for toggling outline mode and setting color for the same.

My idea: Combining a new layer management and a timeline 
facility.
The stripes in the timeline mark layer/object lifespan, 
so visiualizing particle effect timing and things like that 
come to mind.
This lifespan thing would make it easy to have varying 
setups/environments in a single Blender Scene.
Audio and video sequences right in the same place.
IPO curves could be depicted in a pseudo-bird-view with 
gradients.
It should be easy to view only the layer part without 
timline for working on stills.

Of course this is all quite rough. I'd like to receive 
a little feedback if this makes sense / might have a future.
