And for years they have been avaliable for non real time work, as
plugins at least. So the PR spin is there, and you can always get into
technicalities, like if plugin or not, official or third party, if
support for that or the other, full auto or full tweakable, etc,
etc. By just typing normal map in a search engine I saw pages of
people doing it in LW, Maya... Of course, it is the first time you can
do it with Discreet code, right? Maybe that was hidden in the small
print. :]

http://amber.rc.arizona.edu/lw/normalmaps.html "NormalMapShader This
shader will allow you to render the lo-res object using the Normal Map
created from the hi-res object with NormalMapCreate or
NormalMapColor."

http://www.drone.org/tutorials/normal_maps.html "This technique can be
very useful when preparing LOD objects from a high resolution one, for
games or rendering optimisation, while keeping a maximum of visual
similarity."

Can we stop now about talking about PRs, ads and buzzwords? Companies
are going to do that forever, not see something coming and then say
they are the only ones. In their ads the apps do all, never crash and
so on. So then why would you need newer versions? ;] Read promotional
things with a grain of salt. And do not think just cos official app
Foobar6D has added something and make a lot of noise, other people
have been sitting and waiting.

Back to wrapping some C++ with C calls for me.
