Hello all. I know that you havent heard from me in a while and I apoligise
for that. But I will tell you that I have been reading all of the emails in
my inbox so I have been keeping up on the latest that all of you have been
coming up with. Some really great stuff....a very exciting time for the user
community indeed. I have been pondering about purchasing a certain type of
hardware for some time now. It is a 3D scanner. The particular model I am
looking at is called the Microscribe. The MicroScribe is an input device that
enables users to convert 3D objects into digital 3D models and has
practically cornered the consumer market (I am refering to the G2 based
models not the industrial medical line and such). Here is some more
information on the device itself:

Anyways, I am sure that all of you have heard of it. It is mostly famous for
allowing 3D artists to scan in anything from clay representations of thier
work to human heads for animating. Now, the hardware currently comes with a
standalone application that I assume supports DXF, 3DS, VRML, etc. Now, there
are also a plethera of plugins and extras for some of the more industry
standard applications such as Maya, 3DS MAX, blah blah blah. Now to my point.
The manufactures of Microscribe has just released an SDK for the hardware so
that the developers of other applications can better integrate the
capabilites of such hardware into the interface (I assume this would allow
for greater control of the actual scanning itself through the application of
choice). Here is the link describing the Microscribe SDK:
