Hi welcome to the list (and others who have signed up too),

As Ton mentioned, we should wait a couple of days for people to sign up
before starting anything too involved (there are a few topics on the agenda
that we can start working on).

Here are a few brief answers to your concerns:

- I know you're really into the structuralism and meta-stuff, but I'd like
to keep things more informal. I have faith that the people on this list have
a reasonable amount of common sense. As for policy, the points that Ton
posted will pretty well suffice as guidelines for now:

* Concentrate on what the end-user sees and does
* Avoid technical discussions
* /Only/ things that are feasible in < v2.5

- I don't want to be setting rules for the types of software people can use
for communication. This also goes for setting rules for the format of emails
(names of ideas, summaries, etc.). If people post things in obscure formats
and people can't read them, then that's the problem of the person who posted
them to solve. There is a limit to the size of messages that can be posted
to the list (40Kb or something). For anything more, link to external
webspace. Free webspace for Blender users is available at www.reblended.com
.

- Re. FAQs, I'd rather wait until there actually have been frequently asked
questions, rather then laying down rules from the start. Like Ton said,
things like webspace, forums, etc. can be worried about later, when we have
a clearer idea of the sorts of discussions that will be taking place here.
We'll adapt to what people want to do, rather than trying to force people to
adapt to a set structure.

- Re. other software - comparing and contrasting Blender with the way that
other software works will be an integral part in researching features. I
don't want people to feel worried about posting things about software (if
they prefer the way things work in other software for example) for fear of
being labelled as some sort of covert marketer.

- Mailing list archives are at the same site used to sign up, and at the
bottom of each email:
http://www.blender.org/mailman/listinfo/bf-funboard

In brief, less rules and discussion about discussion. Lets worry about
problems when we arrive at them rather than trying to pre-emptively tie
everything down too much.

Cheers

Matt
