Yes, and like I said in the very same conversation,
the Dist setting is NOT used for spots, unless you
turn ON the Sphere option. But why would you do that
when you can use the clip sta and clip end value?

For spots, the cone is mainly there for a
visualisation of what will can be seen by the spot.

Also note that the area defined by the Dist setting
when using a normal lamp with Sphere is not resized
when scaling.
