Dear Piotr,
You are absolutely right: I understand that 'Blender Education' has a wide
topic range. I first wanted to go for BlenderCoach, but someone took that
name half a month before I tried to get it. However, I don't regret it a bit
because by now my plans have grown and I intend to use the range of what
Blender Education can be. It will just take time to implement.
Let me clarify first the current version of the website: Now we focus on
private-tutoring, mentoring, coaching and support. This could be an
intensive series of lessons with a professional coach (e.g. when you hire
someone from the Blender Network) or it could be a few individuals that you
can ask questions while going through your project (e.g. when you know all
components but are not clear on how to combine everything into a nice
render). The website supports both coaches asking money and coaches working
for free or accepting a voluntary donation.
For more information, you can also watch the two youtube video’s I posted
earlier this weekend which explain more about the website
http://youtu.be/P8akjzBiVn0 and show you what a project looks once you are
registered http://youtu.be/KkJiOy-zlE8. I think these will explain a lot and
I advise you to watch them as they will explain the unique way we try to
connect free and paid content.
We will also maintain a blog on blendereducation.blogspot.com, where we will
post articles related to Blender and education and keep you updated about
the development of the website.
About the big picture of the website: Although I understand that you are
interested, I am not going to disclose plans of which I am not yet sure that
I can technically realize them. But I will say this: we hope and aim to make
Blender Education the hub of Education about blender on the web. CGCookie,
although a wonderful website, is about a handfull of people selling their
tutorials. Blender Education will become for Education what the new Market
Place, that CGCookie is launching, will be for add-ons and objects. Blender
Education will be open for everyone to put their educational services and
materials, either paid or for free. Private-tutoring is only our first step
and we intend to implement a lot more features. Some of these are completely
free to use (e.g. the next thing we want to implement once the current part
is up and running, is a giant searchable list of tutorials. A list across
all websites, all topics and all languages, with a review and rating
system). This on its own would be worth a website, but for us it is only a
small part of what we want to do. For other, non-free, parts we will always
try to think of a low-budget version connected to the high-budget version.
Interaction is key and we want to give the community the freedom to decide
its price (all the way to 0, but we do have a maximum of 1 000 000 euro
;) ).
As you can see, I have big plans for this website and I am very ambitious
about it. But I can't do it without any support, so if you are interested,
spread the news, join the beta or follow us on social media to stay updated.
And if you have any more questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact
me.
Best regards
Nick

Hello everyone,
I wanted to tell you all about a new website that I have launched recently
and that could be very interesting to you all. I am talking about
www.blendereducation.com, a website targeted on private tutoring, mentoring,
support and coaching. Special about this website is that there is not a team
behind it, but rather that it is a platform for everyone to use. So anyone
can become a student and anyone can become a coach. The website offers both
parties a place to present themselves, offers the tools necessary such as
fora, chat rooms, video chat, ? and takes care of the administration and
payments.
Currently the website is finished, but we have decided to start slowly with
a limited number of users. Anyone can apply for this ?beta? phase and use
the website for free during this time (only the website will be for free,
not the coaches). For more information and details, visit the website and
the about section.
Besides informing you all, I would also like to ask 2 questions:
1)If there is anyone interested in joining the beta either as a student or
as a coach, feel free to send me an email. You can use the contact page on
the website for this. If anyone has students interested in learning Blender,
then perhaps you can inform them of this website and they could participate
in the beta during their summer break. (Please notice that they should be of
legal age or ask permission from their parents before hiring coaches.)
2)Secondly, I wanted to ask for a little help in promoting the website. As
you can imagine, a website like this can only work if it has sufficient
support. I tried to make it as easy as possible to do this: just go to our
facebook, twitter or google+ page and you will find a message that you can
share and retweet or copy to other social media, mailing lists or fora. The
more people spread the news, the more people will find the website and the
more interesting it will become, so ask others to do the same.
Thank you all for any help you can give and I hope to see you on the
website.
Best regards
Nick Van den Broeck

Hello Nick,
are you going to make just money using Blender Education, or, is this
possible to put a random free content on your site? What business model do
you allow? What about localized version for national services?
The domain says much (and really this name should be taken with full
responsibility for the whole Education Related To Blender), and I wonder if
the Blender Education should have something to do with paid services. The
question is what BF is thinking about this also :)
As far as I understand, this site is for making money by tutors who put
their courses there; and they (somehow) have to be paid by people who like
to attend. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If this is the model then I
don't like the idea. CGCOOKIE is then more open, allowing free content.
But, as I said, I can misunderstand something... Please tell us a bit more
:)
best regards!
Piotr
