Hi John

The high school I come from is a four-year technical high school. My
department, Media Arts & Technology, is one of six technologies students
can 'major' in. Our students must choose one technology they will study
for four years along with their academic studies. Electronics, Computer
Science, Material Science, Architecture, Design, and mine. My students
get
four-years learning Blender, but no certification.

The industry is awkward here on the West Coast. Industry is not
interested in certification. For example, 36 questions to show
proficiency
in Photoshop? It won't work. They want to see original work, no
school
work, done by students. In the long run, in comes down to time and
money.
Can your (student) use his knowledge and skills in Blender to creatively
complete an assignment on time and in the allotted budget?

I developed my own advisory board made from parents and alumni in
the industry. I use my board to help me determine trends I should
teaching
and where the industry is going. This helps me to keep my curriculum
up-to-date. My board membership includes: DisneyImagineers, Warner
Bros
Studio, Pixar, JPL, and a few from the industrial arts industries.

If your students are worried about learning Blender but not
knowing
Maya, 3Ds Max, ZBrush, and so on, it doesn't matter as long as the
artist
has skills and creativity in his package.

I have to agree with one of the writers, it is best you write up
your
own certification and then submit it to Ton for approval. I would be
more
than happy to join you in this endeavor. I would need to know what you
are
teaching now and time (quarter, semester or year course.) I can tell
you
in more detail what industry is looking for at the apprentice level. If
you are interested you can reach me at promero.media at gmail.com
