What do you mean by Adobe skills, that covers a lot of programs made
by that company?

If you are taking art, than take a look at:

Gimp sort of like photo shop but a bit lighter and a lot freer. (This
program is going through a big change so you might want to check back
in a year or two if you don't like it now.) It is a very solid program
for 99.9% of the work you might want to do in Photoshop.

Mypaint A really great painting program but you need a tablet like
Wacom Bamboo or better, if you have the cash.

Inkscape, A Vector based art program.

There are also a lot of other open source art programs but I like those listed.
You might also look at open office or its never fork Libre Office. Or
maybe Scribus or Krita
