[Bf-docboard] Visual Improvements to the Manual

Hi!
overall your proposal is great! I agree with others regarding default width. I would suggest some tweaks in the way the tree works and behaves (and again suggest to have a look at the mongoDB theme).

Are you interested in coding such template?

Hi Greg, all,

I also like the changes you propose, but I agree with Gaia that we should keep the line length shorter.  (Good link, Gaia!)  The only time shorter text length bothers me is when I'm reading code samples that line wrap too much, otherwise, I find a shorter column to be nice because I can have my reference doc up on the left side of my monitor, and use the application on the right.

Hi;

+1 for making the manual more pretty and better readable.
Your suggestion are all looking good to me.

i have 2 remarks though:
Navigation Bar showing whole tree
I'd appreciate that as well, but then please also add a
reasonable collapse/expand function into the navigation bar...
Page width larger
I am not sure if this is a good idea. I always try to take care to use
an average of 12-15 words per line of text. Because otherwise
it becomes extremely difficult to read (for me at least). So i actually
would prefer to keep the width as it is.

Here is a link to an article that seems worthwhile to be read,
as it contains a lot of additional information about "how people read":

That text might be more convincing than my personal preferences :)

cheers,
Gaia

These are all good ideas.   I'd support moving ahead with them.

Hey all :)

I've written down some ideas for improving the appearance of the manual, which would mostly be done with just some CSS tweaks.

Roughly:
Navigation Bar showing whole tree
Reference Box formatting and consistency
Broken Links more apparent
Image Captions to look more like captions
More space after italics
Clear Search Highlight
Page Width larger
But read the full page here for details: http://gregzaal.com/junk/html/proposals/visual_improvements.html

Do you agree/disagree with any of these ideas? Do you have any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Greg
