Hello Papasmurf ,
 
when you say "becoming a wiki author" do you mean to just create an account from the wiki.blender.org page?
 
I created an account but it says I do not have permission when I try to view the source of any page.
 
Also I downloaded the windows version of wincvs and tried to connect to cvs.blender.org but I keep having a server not responsing (although I have a prompt to enter the password).
 
I do not know if you are aware but I use IE 7 on Windows XP and every page in wiki when browsed returns the error "wgBreakFrames is undefined" at line 52.
