[Bf-cycles] Output Cycles viewport preview as image/movie?

In my experience, 3D view Shift+Z preview is MUCH quicker than full rendering. Here is an example from my animation, with render and preview samples both set to 100 samples:
Full F12 render:Frame 1: 1:17Frame 2: 1:09Frame 3: 1:09
3D View Shift+Z preview: Frame 1: 0:20Frame 2: 0:08Frame 3: 0:08
The difference is that for previews Blender takes only a few seconds to load the objects before presenting the preview. An F12 render takes about 1:05 just loading the scene, before the 100 sample render starts. Each subsequent frames take the same amount of time to load and render, whereas moving forward one frame in the preview window takes only 8 seconds to refresh it. Ctrl+F3 screenshots are also unusable, since they capture the entire Blender interface and not just the camera view.
So, would it be possible to make Cycles 3D preview render operate just like 'OpenGL render active viewport'? On my 2000 frame animation, this would be the difference between 4 hours for the preview renders, or 33 hours for a full F12 render!

you can just hit space bar and type "save screenshot" (or just hit ctr+f3)and save your 3d preview

In the 3D viewport the 'OpenGL render active viewport' buttons provide a very fast way to output a preview image or movie. Using Blender Internal and GLSL shading it is possible to output some very good looking images in almost no time.

For Cycles users, could a similar function be provided when using the viewport's Cycles preview render (Shift+Z), by capturing the viewport image? This function would allow users to save high quality, but very fast, Cycles preview renders just like saving OpenGL renders. This would be incredibly useful for providing samples to end customers so they can see the overall look of an animation in Cycles quality, without having to wait hours for a full F12 render to finish.
