I understand from this that it would be possible to bring back lattices
and curves? That would be great (some uses of these in rigging is a
workaround for the aforementioned issue but not always)

That indeed sounds cool and maybe a step into a more flexible (nodal?)
system.

I don't see any attachments, I think ML scrubs them? perhaps a diff on
developer.blender.org would be better.
