[Bf-committers] Compositor proposal

Hi,
this is a nice proposal, but it does not mention anything about code 
readability/easy code.

The current compositor code is quite difficult and a little mess (no 
offense).
Before we start to look at performance/new features, I rather see code 
refactor/cleanup happen..
Lukas made a patch for that, can this be evaluated first please?
