I thought it already used a front face test when computing the plane,
isn't that what add_norm_if does?

I've done some tests with this a few years ago, and I found there's
often unexpected side effects when making changes here. So I think the
only way to get good feedback here may be to actually make the change.

And yes, for perspective it seems like the view direction could be
computed more accurately, I'm also not sure how much it would help in
practice as only faces at grazing angles would be affected.
