This would actually be great! The feature pops up quite frequently
too. Examples of this are the spin/screw operation and subdivide
operations. Recently someone has asked for a triangulate modifier. So
big +1 from me too. The only hurdle I can think of is proper
customdata calculation. Is this really possible to do for all
operators?
