Are you talking about box select? Then it is the b key. Some keys were
moved. I suggest you look in the key setting area (input in the user
preferences) to find your lost keys or else ask on IRC blender channel
for a quick answer. I know it can be hard making the switch but after
you get used to the new way, you will wonder how you ever put up with
the old system, not to say that things are perfect you or that some
things are not still better in the old system. Give these guys a few
years and 2.4 will look like an antique.
