[Bf-committers] text Hinting patch

Bdiego tried this before, and the kerning is terrible - looks very
amateurish and makes the word shapes harder to distinguish. I don't
mind having it as an option if people really have an aversion to the
current setup (personally I'm very happy with it currently), but not
by default.
