1080p is defined as 1920x1080, with no squeezing of the pixels, pixels are
squared. The ratio is, obviously, 16:9
1080i is defined as 1440x1080, with rectangular pixels, pixel ratio is 1.33
and the frame is divided in two fields, in other words it's "interlaced".
That's the "i" in 1080i. When decoded, either in a NLE/Compositor or in a TV
set the 1080i frame is exploded to 1920x1080, given that each pixel is 1 a
1/3 pixels.

Hope this clarifies it. And yes, I too believe that the computer resolutions
should be kept to a minimum. We have basically two different requirements:
game presets and film/video presets. Maybe it would make sense to have a
two-tier menu system in order to group presets logically?
