Good suggestion, 

On earlier Windows system you should also add /3Gb to the boot.ini. 
I suggest to refer to 
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778%28VS.85%29.aspx
in the faq, as there are also 32 bit platforms supporting more memory.

we should be able to get 3 GB on 32 bit systems so bigger renders and
more multires levels for sculpt,
