I teach newbies all the time and they are clueless. They can't add
options and they have no idea what a good setup looks like or what
setup will create a good work flow because they don't even know what a
blender work flow is.

Newbies need lots of things preset and preset well, so that they can
learn. Later, when they become better users they will change things as
they see fit.
