Not everyone compiles with GCC. MSVC, Intel, and probably a few others out

 all of the compilers you listed all support struct packing as well
(although with #pragma instead of a flag). oo one we haven't thought of
like.. like tinyC?

Should not be an issue. That's why we have the whole DNA system :)

It couldn't hurt to look. Sounds like a lot of bit counting.
