[Bf-committers] question on memory usage of duplicates

Hello,
just a quick question: do duplicates need as much RAM memory when
working in Blender as independently created objects? (the same with  
linked duplicates)
Does someone have numbers?

The problem comes up with big ball-and-stick molecules where spheres
and materials could be deep links but aren't due to the VRML2 import  
script.
