[Bf-committers] 2.49 release proposal

It seems that most of the code for these additions are in place to be 
migrated anyway.The bugs are another story.But it seems logical that the new 
features should be in place before 2.5 (documentation and such) and all of 
this will make for a smoother intergration into 2.5.
