The suggestion is based on ZBrush, which uses Shift as
a modifier for the smooth brush (shift-click to
smooth, "normal" click is the selected brush).

Presumably, this allows for faster sculpting (faster
smoothing, without the need to constantly go back and
forth between brushes).
