What exactly do you mean by 'almost'?
Also, currently the same shading rate is used as for
the final render, but for some objects without

Kind of a surprising statement really ;)
Considering the amount of work done behind the scenes
I think it is kind of logical it will be slower.
You cannot compare it to something like PRman or
3delight, QD is only less than 2 years old.
It certainly isn't very fast, even so, personally I
think it did reasonably well in most cases, as far as
rendertimes is concerned, I had expected it to be much
worse for a first version.
That I say this myself is saying something :)

Well, I already told Brecht that I of course am very
much willing to help him with further integration.
Unless you mean someone coming over to the Amsterdam
studio to help in person, in which case I cannot do
that for reasons I already told you about.
