Hi,

Find below an announcement of Marco, blender.org system admin who's
working on migrating servers and refreshing all software and tools.
Basically he likest to know if we're ready for a move! :)

Hi All,

Last 2 weeks I have been working on moving and upgrading our GForge
installation. So far so good altough GForge isn't the most
user/developer friendly application around. Anyway; the biggest change
is going to migrate from CVS to Subversion. This has been requested
several times by developers and has been part of the plan, though it
has not been well communicated. So what's going to happen...

We will move from CVS to Subversion if there are no showstoppers!.
Subversion has some substantial advantages over CVS for both developers
and sysadmins which are very welcome.

All repositories will be migrated keeping history intact and available
via viewvc from within GForge. Ssh access as we know it will be
dropped, keys will be dropped and instead the GForge username, password
will be used to gain access to the Subversion repository over https.
Anonymous repository access will be granted to projects that desire
this.

Each repository will have the same (well defined) standard layout:

  branches - For development branches
  tags - For snapshots
  trunk - Main development

Sofar the bf-blender repository have been migrated, amongst several
others, during the testrun and with success. I know the information is
quite limited for now but if there are reasons to believe this not
being a good move I would like to discuss this now.

For more information on Subversion please read

Kind regards,

- Marco
