Sure, you can set LINK to $CXX in a scons build environment, like
env.Replace(LINK = '$CXX')
It's probably set to $SMARTLINK ...i just can't tell you right now
where exactly to put it in blender's scons scripts...somewhere in
tools/Blender.py i'd assume.
