with a render-plugin-material there would be a mix of render specific 
settings and some match with blenders.

what Im suggesting is there be a function to convert these back. if none 
match then the function dosnt have to do anything ;) - but it would be 
nice to have at least basic settings copy back. spec/diffuse color, ref, 
  hardness etc - that would be stored in most render-plugin-material's
