The useful thing is when dragging over the clips in the timeline, you can see THEIR OWN content in the viewer. That is: if you have 4 clips on 4 track one over each other, dragging your clip to overlap the second clip in the stack you'll see frames from it, choosing the 3rd you see the 3rd clip in the viewer and so on. That's very useful.
