[Bf-committers] UI guidelines for modifiers?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the policy is on designing interfaces for
modifiers? Is it ok to use the area beneath the "Apply" and "Copy"
buttons, or should this be kept clear?

I ask because I'd like to make the interface for the array modifier
(http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/BlenderDev/ArrayModifier) a
bit more compact, and extending into that area would make this
possible.

Is there some kind of overall UI guideline document for Blender?
