Hi Peter,
This idea is interestingly an maybe can be added to the architecture
that I have in mind (See also my answer to Nathan).
However I don't think that just a Verse Server is enough when one wants
to retrieve a mesh in a list of 1000.
In this case you need more information. 
In my architecture I assume that users "sharing" objects can be working
on totally indipendent blender files. 
So, a user basically don't knows what he wants. He just wants to browse
for ex. meshes to pick-up one to integrate in his project.

Hi,

just my two cents:

why not just create a Verse-Server that has a database-backend?
That keeps the idea (shared objects on a central server accessible by
several people) seperated from the implementation (storing the data in a
database).
