Since saving doesn't actually work in editmode, perhaps it should not
allow you to even attempt to save, and certainly shouldn't give you
the dialog to name you saved file, allow you to press the save button,
and not return an error that nothing was actually saved....

Or optionally it should toggle to object mode and save the file, then
return you to editmode.
