Yes, I checked the diff, and it looked suspicious.

Anyway, I guess for the future, OpenEXR should just become a prerequisite to
building Blender - now that its functionality is so tightly integrated and
used all over the place, it probably doesn't make any more sense to offer
options to build without it. Even *I* agree on that :)
