[Bf-committers] what to do with roll for bones?

Hi,

When I try to import an armature into Blender (from Collada) I get the
local-to-world transformations for each Joint.

Now, I can easily get the world-locations for the head and tail for each
bone. However, I don't understand what the purpose of the roll property is.
I see that when I change this value in Blender, The local Axis of that Bone
changes but as far as I can see, it has no impact on the childs of that bone
whatsoever.
