- Recode radiosity to be threaded. Or implement techs that improve
  realism of the lighting, in a threaded way.

- Rework the plugin systems of texture and sequencer. It is a bit
  limited as is, and has issues with portability, for example.

- Create a plugable node (C API) for the new materials and compositing
  system. This would allow more kinds of nodes without having to
  integrate them and probably bind to different kinds of libs with
  ease.

- On demand conversion for subsurf and NURBS (meshes too, if the mesh
  has displacement applied, for example) so the resolution matches the
  render resolution.

- Layer manager, like one of those you can find in other Blender
  versions or as script, but integrated with main source code.

- Implement/improve speed up systems for raytracing. Better spatial
  organization and so on.
