I had thought of something myself :0
However a few things...

1) Someone has to be always maintaining them. Commit and forget will not be enough. There needs to be a long term commitment on someone to maintain them.  We did this for a while with vc6 and vc7 but the 2 build systems would get out of sync. vc6 was working, vc7 wasn't, and vice versa. Scons was an attempt to have a 'fail safe' build system that people were not always complaining about :)

2) vc7's makefiles are scattered across the blenderverse. It would be nice to have /intern /extern /blender in some sensible heirarchy if you start a new set of projectfiles.

3) vc7's projectfiles should import into vc8. I don't know how well or if vc8 complains where vc7 doesn't. It might be worth the while to investiate to see if the new 7.1 projectfiles continue to have vc8 difficulties or if they can be modified to work in 2005 without having to maintain 2 sets. If the new set is needed however, then we need them :0

The important thing is that if we add them we need to have a _permanant_ maintainer for them. From the vc6/vc7 experiences weve had it's likely they'll get out of sync in the future at some point. However again, if we need them, lets commit them.

That's my ideas anyhow :)

I'd be willing to make a projectfiles_vc8 from these and keep them up
to date if anyone is interested. I currently use scons with VC8 but
would prefer the projectfiles method.
