It would be good if operations that allocate rather large amounts of
memory in particular the smoothing code on high subdiv levels on a
large mesh could check for saneness.  (Of course the saneness of what
appears to be allocating the entire subdivided smooth mesh at once
during a render is rather questionable to begin with??)
