[Bf-committers] T3 UI migration

Hi,

As promised, I would review with Matt the feasibility of migrating the
rest of Tuhopuu3 UI work over... the layout for buttons and panels.

My first check, on display buttons, was relative positive, but the
amount of additional work there is still substantial. It will take a
couple of hours of work, and that for just 4 panels. In Blender there's
over a hundred panels already, making the total work (for 1 person)
about 5-10 days...
This not calculating in additional work, such as reviews, testing, and
incorporating feedback with additional shuffles in the UI (like
Guillermos doc).

The button layout will have a big impact for users, it has a lot of
political 'personal taste' dangers we need to bypass too. Even whilst
the current UI has a whole lot of design errors, for a reshuffle I
rather take more time to ensure we're really doing things properly.

So; my proposal is:

- Make Panel/Button layout redesign a 2.41 target
- Find/appoint a small team of devs to work on the migration
(Too bad Matt and I are quite busy still for the next three months)
- Start committing finished panels right after the 2.40 release, when
back to 'bcon 1'.

BTW; Matt's original design doc is still very good:

It is really possible to make a rationally structured, and workflow
based (minimum amount of mouse motion and clicks) design. :)
