This is quite an exciting development for the GE, as not only does it 
make the method of texturing a single process ( rather than two ) for 
content for both render and for the Game Engine, it will also allow for 
easy multi-texturing effects for the game engine. 

It might also encourage more Blender artists who typically render to try 
it out ( maybe to fly, walk or drive around their scene ), as their 
rendered scene will already be compatible with the GE.

When I'm going to teach Blender to a number of students, I'll be using 
the GE to allow them to learn basic modelling and texturing in a fun 
way.  With this patch, I won't have to teach them both different ways of 
applying texturing ( one way is complex enough! )

For me, this is great news!
