Some releases where shipped with both versions. Some others only one,
and I have not seen a huge "it does not work" that was not about
missing lib that exists, just not installed.
I just tested official 2.36 in a Debian which has 2.3.2 (right, not
2.2.5). It works too anyway. So maybe the reason is to keep
compatibility?

Could you show ldd "official-blender-binary" and which distro are you
using? I am curious what kind of error are you getting. Thanks.
