I use

patch view.c < patch.txt

I generally don't work much with patches, so I tested it with the above
command.  My development environment here isn't great (no external access
to the CVS tree), so I couldn't generate a patch against the existing CVS
tree, just against my untouched copy.  I wanted to get a patch out the
door, so I did something quickly.
