Patches are always welcome.  

However, if I could offer a small suggestion, a good patch includes a
short description of what the patch fixes.  A reference to a bug
number in the bug tracker if one exists would do.

Whenever we commit files to cvs, we provide a cvs log message
describing the commit.  Later, this text gets turned into the release
notes for the latest release.

Note: The first person who says "but it was only a one line patch!" 
gets a smack upside the head for missing the point.
