Hi Campbell and everyone else!
I'm running Windows 2000 right now; the Opterons absolutely rock in 32-bit mode. Blender runs great on my system, and renders very fast, especially in multithreaded mode.
I was running Suse Linux 9.1/AMD64-smp on the box for a while, and it was the worst OS I've ever used. Everything kept segfaulting, and GNOME support was horrendous. There wasn't any Linux driver for my card at the time, so I didn't get the chance to run Blender on it. The processors are stable enough, but the distro was awful.
3dlabs recently released a Red Hat Enterprise Linux driver for my card, so I might try to hack the driver into a nicer distro, like Slackware or Ubuntu. Sorry I couldn't say more about the Blender side of things.
Matt
