[Bf-committers] ATI slowdown still present?

The ATI slowdown seems to be still present as reported in this past bug report

Is there an ATI contact that we could use to see if they are aware of
what might cause this proble?  I'd be willing to do some work to get
it fixed but it would be good to know if any work has been done to
narrow it down.
